archicad & snow leopard

we have been using AC12 on snow leopard without any problems so far.

only major nuisance so far seems to be the dropped support for QTVR in quicktime X… workaround for the moment is to use quicktime 7.

more information regarding compatibility & update to the wibu key driver here and a user discussion on archicad-talk here.

  1. My recent experience is that any QTVR movie one produces with AC 12 (I tried the AC recommended Cinepak codec and then MPEG-4) under Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6) cannot be opened by QuickTime 7 on either OS 10.6 or OS 10.5. The same sequence (AC model and procedure) produced under Mac OS 10.5 can be read by QuickTime 7 on both OS 10.5 and 10.6. So QT 7 is for legacy QTVR. So far Apple has told me that the problem is for Graphisoft to resolve. There is no reason to believe that AC 13 would have adressed the problem. Am I missing something in my OS 10.6 set-up?

  2. @minique > we do not experience this problem, as we can without any problem create qtvrs (both panorama scenes & objects) in AC12/AUS2675 and open them in quicktime 7 on 10.6 (with both cinepak & mpeg4).

not sure what you could do apart from maybe reinstalling AC and / or quicktime, i.e. if you have not already tried that.

please let us know how you get on.

  3. You encourage me. I shall first reinstall QuickTime 7 with the QT Pro license in our case) on the Snow Leopard machines, and see what happens. Failing that, I shall re-install AC12 and see. I will let you know the result.

AC 12 here is “2675 US Full for Teamwork”

  4. Bingo. I deleted QuickTime 7 from the Utilities folder where Snow Leopard had moved it and re-installed it from the Snow Leopard “Optional Installs” application. Our QTVR sequences produced with AC12 under Snow Leopard can now be opened.

Apparently our problem can be replicated. I am spreading the word as to this simple solution.

    Thank you, ds.

  5. Hello ds. and there we thought that we had the problem solved. Unfortunately, I went and installed the OS 10.6.2 update. It eliminated our ability to produce openable QTVR with AC 12 again. But now, re-installation of QT7 from the Snow Leopard disk does not restore our ability. Fortunately, it is still OS10.6.1 on my laptop, so in a bind, we can produce QTVR there. Before I take the time to re-install AC12 with its updates on the chance that it solves our problem, have you heard of a Graphisoft patch or an Apple acknowledgement of the problem? Did you install OS 10.6.2 without losing QTVR production capability? Failing AC 12 re-installation, I am going to have to leave a machine out of the OS X update process, I suppose.

    • no such problems here… may be a reason could be that we are using quicktime 7 pro – which version have you got?

regarding your reinstallation problem you might want to try pacifist which lets you reinstall components that are already installed but might be corrupt.

  6. Sorry about the delay, had some preoccupations. Yes, we have QuickTime Pro version 7, but that should not be relevant to getting results out of the ArchiCAD QuickTime VR 2.0 engine. It works for people who have just the QuickTime reader, or at least it did. Also, I saw how Graphisoft is using Apple’s phase out of QuickTime to promote Virtual Building Explorer, which does some things better, some not and of course means a purchase. Pardon me for showing a bit of frustration with all of this. In any case, I re-installed just the ArchiCAD 12 application and the subsequent hot fixes. It did not take as long as I had imagined and it re-instated our ability to produce readable QuickTime VR objects. Alleluia. Thanks for the pacifist thing, am looking into it. I guess this is it, with mystery remaining about our different experiences. Your advice has been bang on.
